Enjoy all the fine things that great retirement living should offer. Heritage Commons is extraordinarily well-equipped and beautifully appointed to insure you a care-free, very comfortable retirement lifestyle. Our extensive list of amenities includes:
Large Scenic Patio with Barbecue
Any time it’s fair weather you’ll find lots of company on our large 2700-square-foot patio. The patio is set on a lush lawn and offers beautiful nature views surrounded by flowers, the Coginchaug River and we even have a goldfish pond. It’s a great place to socialize, read, dine or just relax in the sun. The patio is the perfect setting for cook-outs, entertainment, holiday celebrations, and our big August garden party.
With seating for 32 at four large tables, the first-floor Activity Room is Heritage Commons’ headquarters for arts and crafts, bingo, cards, or any activity that requires space to spread out.
Our stylist, Camille offers a full range of services including women's and men’s haircuts, wash and sets, coloring, perms and manicures. The salon is a great place to visit with friends and pricing is very reasonable.
Elegant Dining Room
Our beautifully appointed dining room serves a wide variety of delicious, perfectly prepared gourmet meals featuring several tempting menu choices each evening. The atmosphere is that of a fine restaurant, yet the mood is relaxed, friendly, and informal. At Heritage Commons you’ll enjoy delicious gourmet cuisine daily. We purchase the finest quality foods, with fresh deliveries arriving several times weekly, and all meals are prepared so as to offer our residents the good food, proper nutrition, and balanced diet so important to senior health. Our kitchen uses very little salt in cooking, relying on stocks and spices for seasoning, and we use zero-cholesterol cooking oils exclusively. We include heart healthy entrees and diabetic desserts on a daily basis.
Our Exercise Room includes a pool table, motorized treadmill, two exercise bicycles, a stair-step machine, a multi-function training machine, free weights, and a doctor’s scale. A staff member is always available to assist and instruct you in the use of all equipment. By the way, be sure to try our weekly pool league – it’s co-ed and lots of fun for players of all skill levels!
The cheery Fireplace Lounge is a comfy place to relax any time or to socialize with friends before meals. A big, comfortable couch and armchairs are perfect for conversation, reading, or just enjoying the view of the woods and field beyond our patio, through the big floor-to-ceiling windows. And the fireplace creates a rosy glow and a warm, convivial atmosphere even on the coldest winter days. You’ll also find scrapbooks that show you pictures and tell you a lot about the backgrounds, interests, and hobbies of all your new Heritage Commons neighbors.
Our General Store carries over 300 items including canned and packaged foods, dairy products, snack foods including cookies and candy bars, pet food, cleaning and laundry products, batteries (including hearing aid batteries), paper supplies, and personal care products. The store is run by resident volunteers, so shopping is also a great time to socialize. The General Store is officially open two hours daily but a staff member is always happy to open the store for special purchases. Store prices are competitive and often lower than supermarket pricing.
Resident Laundry Room
Heritage Commons’ bright, spotless laundry room includes five coin-operated washing machines and dryers and several large laundry carts that make it easy to transport your laundry to and from your apartment. Change is always available at the Front Desk.
Our comfortable library is a wonderful place to curl up with a good book from our 3,000-volume collection. We stock 300 large-print books and many periodicals, and a representative from Middletown’s Russell Library visits Heritage Commons regularly with a dozens of best sellers and special requests.
Our welcoming Piano Lounge is one of the hubs of social life at Heritage Commons. Newspapers are delivered daily, so the Piano Lounge is a great place to catch up on current events, visit with neighbors, or just relax by the floor-to-ceiling glass wall looking onto the goldfish pond and the woods beyond. And of course there’s a piano. But even if you don’t play that’s not a problem – ours is a player piano, so all you have to do is pop in a piano roll to get the party started.
Heritage Commons’ elegant private dining room offers views of the patio and garden from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The private dining room accommodates up to 16 people and is a perfect place for hosting family and friends for any special occasion.
Our big-screen TV lounge includes a new 55-inch, high-definition smart TV. Movies, with selections ranging from the latest releases to classic films, are shown several times a week. There’s also a theater organ for residents to play and all are welcome regardless of musical ability.
Heritage Commons also has a Nintendo Wii interactive gaming system. Residents enjoy Wii bowling, Wii golf and Wii shuffleboard. These games improve balance and coordination as players use their body and arm motions to control the movements of sports figures on the TV screen. And, Wii is lots of fun!
